Custom firmware (CFW) is an unofficial version of firmware created by third parties. Unlike official firmware, CFW allows homebrew applications and ROM image backups to run directly on the game console.

Custom firmware (CFW) 4.91.2 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5) is the latest and smoothest CFW release by Evilnet, offering enhanced functionality and compatibility. Learn how to install CFW 4.91.2 and unlock the full capabilities of your PS3.

Important Note

You can’t install CFW directly unless your console has firmware version 3.55 or below. If your PS3 has firmware above 3.55, we have a dedicated guide for that process. However, make sure your PS3 model matches the tested models below. If your model is not compatible, don’t worry—you can still install PS3 HEN.

Installation Steps

  1. Download CFW 4.91.2 EVILNAT
  2. Prepare Your USB Drive:
    • Format a USB drive to FAT32.
    • Create a folder named “PS3” in the root directory of the USB drive.
  3. Place the CFW File:
    • Copy the downloaded CFW file into your USB drive’s “PS3” folder.
  4. Connect USB Drive to PS3:
    • Insert the USB drive into the outer right USB port of your PS3 console.
  5. Install CFW:
    • Navigate to “Settings” > “System Update” > “Update via Storage Media” on your PS3.
    • Select the CFW 4.91.2 EVILNAT file from the USB drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  6. Restart PS3:
    • Once the installation is complete, your PS3 console will restart.
