gamePKG v1.02 is a useful application for PS3 users, allowing them to queue PKG files for later installation directly from the XMB, all without restarting the PS3. It’s designed to streamline the installation process, especially for users on Rogero CFW 4.30 (v2.03).

What is gamePKG?

gamePKG is an application specifically for the PS3, designed to allow users to queue PKG files for installation from the XMB without needing to restart the system. This is particularly useful for users on Rogero CFW 4.30 (v2.03), making the process faster and more convenient.

Important Notice:

This application has been tested on Rogero CFW 4.30 (v2.03) and should work on any firmware version 3.40 and above.

Technical Information

PKG Game application will scan the following directories for PKG files:

  • /dev_hdd0/pkg/
  • /dev_hdd0/package/
  • /dev_usb000/pkg/
  • /dev_usb000/package/
  • /dev_usb001/pkg/
  • /dev_usb001/package/
  • /dev_usb002/pkg/
  • /dev_usb002/package/
  • /dev_usb003/pkg/
  • /dev_usb003/package/

Important Notes:

The application handles large PKG files without issue, but ensure there is double the HDD space to accommodate them. Currently, the app does not support re-scanning devices for new PKG files or verify previously queued files. No progress bar is shown during installations. Split PKG files are not supported. The app does not have a GUI, and PKG removal from the queue is not supported

Usage

Here’s how to use

  • Use UP and DOWN on the D-pad to select PKG files.
  • Press (X) to queue the selected PKG.
  • Press (O) to quit and return to the XMB.

Installation instructions

Step 1: Prepare the USB Drive

  1. Insert the USB drive (FAT32) into your computer.

Step 2: Transfer the File

  1. Copy the downloaded .pkg file to the root of the USB drive (not inside the UPDATE folder).
  2. Safely eject the USB drive from your computer.

Step 3: Install the Homebrew App

  1. Plug the USB drive into one of the PS3’s USB ports.
  2. Power on your PS3 and navigate to the Game menu.
  3. Scroll down to Install Package Files and select it.
  4. Locate the .pkg file you copied to the USB drive and install it.

Step 4: Launch the App

  1. After installation, the homebrew application will appear in the Game menu.
  2. Select the app to launch it.
